Classic Exhibits Inc. announces the addition of John Zipay to the Classic Exhibits Executive Team. John will serve as the General Manager for Exhibits Northwest.

Over the past ten years, John progressed rapidly from I&D to account manager and then from VP of Operations to General Manager. I look forward to showing the ENW staff my passion for helping clients achieve their trade show marketing goals. NewLogoFinalJohn will be joining Classic Exhibits at EXHIBITORLIVE in Las Vegas. The company’s theme this year is “Sweet Solutions.” The island will be stocked with licorice, lollipops, salt water taffy, and a variety of cavity-inducing treats for our distributors and guests. Who needs caffeine when there’s a bowl of sugar for a midday energy rush?

According to Kevin Carty, VP at Classic Exhibits, “John’s team-oriented approach, business management skills, and overall Customer Service expertise will provide a seamless transition for leading the Exhibits NW team. His past experience managing install and labor crews on the floor will add even greater depth and understanding for Exhibits NW clients.”

Please take a moment to welcome John to the Classic Family. He can be reached at jzipay@exhibitsnw.com.

Myanmar in Photos (January 2015)

February 18th, 2015 1 COMMENT

20150109_125558Recently, a work colleague went to Myanmar for two weeks. He started in Yangon (Rangoon), spent a few days there, and then took a week-long cruise on the Irrawaddy River to Mandalay. As you know, Myanmar has largely been a closed society until a few years ago, so tourism was limited.

We thought you might enjoy seeing some of his photos. He took hundreds, but I’ve limited it to 42. There are no descriptions, so you’ll need to use your imagination.

5 PM’s — Chose 5 Designs — from Past 5 Days

February 17th, 2015 1 COMMENT

We Love All Our Children But Some More Than Others

We shouldn’t have favorites when it comes to exhibit design projects. But we do. And, of course, everyone has designs they hold “near and dear.” We asked our five project managers to pick the five projects they liked best from 2014 that were featured in Past 5 Days. These were not necessarily jobs they worked on, but ones they loved on our Setup Floor. They all got greedy and picked six… and that’s OK. Sometimes it’s the last child that tugs at your heart the most.

You can see additional photos of each project by searching P5D by the date shown. Click to see larger photos in each PM gallery.

Our sincere thanks to the Classic Distributors for sending your projects to us and for allowing us to share them on P5D. Shared Success!

The New Evolution: EDPA Portable Modular Summit @ EXHIBITORLive 2015

February 14th, 2015 COMMENTS

exlive_2015

It’s only two weeks until EXHIBITORLive 2015, and there’s ONE EVENT you want to lock into your schedule. Here’s my personal invitation to the annual Portable Modular Summit.

The EDPA Portable Modular Summit — The New Evolution

The summit will be held on the show floor Tuesday, March 3 at 3:30 pm, immediately after normal show hours. It will be hosted by my friend Jay Burkette from ExpoDisplays and yours truly (Kevin Carty). There’s no cost to attend.

Each year, we gather for 45 minutes to discuss the latest trends, issues, and successes in the Portable, Modular, and Hybrid segment.

This year’s Summit began at the EDPA ACCESS Conference in December, where we discussed how our slice of the industry has changed over the past 10-15 years. We plan to continue that discussion at EXHIBTORLive with the focus on the Here and Now. As we all know, Portables, Modulars, and Hybrids are a much broader, deeper, and design-centric segment of the industry than ever before.

Clearly, the change has been dramatic, especially post recession. The scope of projects and services offered by distributors/dealers and the breadth of designs by manufacturers has expanded considerably.

We welcome everyone who has a vested interest in this category to the back corner of the show hall on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30. We will begin at 3:45 sharp and will go until 4:30.

PortModFinalist_2015LogoBut Wait! There’s More!!

When we finish, Exhibitor Magazine will take the stage to announce the 2015 Winners of the Portable Modular Awards, People’s Choice Award, Buyer’s Choice Awards, and Best of Show Awards.

I can’t think of two better paired sessions. After discussing the evolving trends in our segment, you will hear about all the great designs in our segment of the industry.

Both the EDPA Portable Modular Summit and the EXHIBITOR Awards presentations are FREE to all. I hope to see you there! Give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions.

Be well and I hope you have/had a great Valentine’s Day Weekend with your someone special and family

Shows To See in Las Vegas | EXHIBITORLIVE 2015

February 11th, 2015 COMMENTS
Lesson #44 – Some People Drink from the Fountain of Knowledge. Others Just Gargle.

Lesson #44 – Some People Drink from the Fountain of Knowledge. Others Just Gargle.

 Tips from a Townie

Last week, I was attending the EDPA Las Vegas Chapter mixer at the Foundation Room in Mandalay Bay when it HIT me! EXHIBITORLIVE is less than a month away, and we have  yet to cover all the Vegas Shows. So, without further adieu, let’s moonwalk.

Michael Jackson ONE is the show to see in Las Vegas right now. And as luck would have it, it’s at Mandalay Bay! It is a heartfelt tribute to the life and music of the King of Pop. The Cirque acrobatics combined with Michael’s legendary music create a story that immerses you in the legend’s music and spirit. There are shows twice a day with the 9:30 pm show changing to 4:30 pm on Sundays.

I’m thinking that I already dated myself with my previous comment about Frogger so it should come as no surprise that I would be excited about the recent 80s Rock revival in Las Vegas! Get out the AquaNet because we have two great shows that are a tribute to your favorite 80s Hair Bands:  Raiding the Rock Vault and Rock of Ages.

rock vaultRaiding the Rock Vault appears nightly, except Thursdays, at the Tropicana. It is the story of Classic Rock as performed by members of some of the greatest rock bands in history. It’s a one-of-a-kind rock show that will have you throwing your p…. Well, you get what I’m trying to say. It’s everything you remember and love about Classic Rock!

Rock of Ages was originally on Broadway, then became a movie starring Tom Cruise (don’t even get me started about that one!). Now it is playing seven days a week at the Venetian. Set in L.A. on the infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, Rock of Ages chronicles two ‘kids’ trying to make it in the L.A. rock scene. For you millennials out there, you might be excited to hear that Joey Fatone of *NSYNC fame will be joining the cast on February 20th.  Here’s a link for 30% discount and 2-for-1 drinks with no strings attached (I seriously could not resist that one!).

Leave it to Sin City to debut a parody of one of the steamiest novels of the 21st Century. 50 Shades! The Parody appears every night except Monday at Bally’s. Some parts of the show are obviously R-rated, but it’s all are meant to be fun and entertaining, albeit in a naughty sort of way. If you’re easily offended, then most likely this isn’t the show for you. But then neither are many other shows here in Vegas. Consider yourself warned!

Fans of HORROR will enjoy the Vegas shows featuring the undead — Evil Dead: The Musical and Zombie Burlesque. Now I fully recognize undead purists will stand firmly in the camp of the Evil Dead not being Zombies. But really? Does it matter? Reviews of both shows describe them as hilarious and fun. Oh, and both shows are at Planet Hollywood.

My last suggestions feature some Las Vegas Headliners

Here are my favorites. Enjoy!

Frank

Donny and Marie – These two have been performing in Las Vegas as Headliners since they were little Osmonds. But this latest gig has been going since 2008. They pack them in and are a locals favorite.

Jeff Dunham — Not Playing With a Full Deck is in residency at Planet Hollywood. Who couldn’t use a good laugh with Jeff and his sidekicks after a long day on the set-up floor? He performs 3 shows a day, 5 days a week.

Frank – The Man. The Music — Starring Bob Anderson. This show has rave reviews. Impressionist Bob Anderson is said to channel Frank Sinatra as he takes the audience through the full repertoire of Sinatra’s musical career.

Don’t forget to use Groupon, Living Social, and Google for show discount codes!

Now’s the time for you to share your favorites! Feel free to come by the Classic Exhibits booth (#1645) and let me know what you thought of the series. You can even ask me why I left Brit-Brit off the list.

Don’t have a pass for ExhibitorLIVE? Well, as luck would have it I’ve got a discount code good for an Exhibits Only pass, with your name on it! How’s that for hooking you up? Click here to access registration and receive an Exhibits Only pass courtesy of Classic Exhibits.
