Stephanie L’Herault, Designer for Eco-Systems Sustainable Exhibits

Eco-Systems Sustainable Exhibits welcomes Stephanie L’Herault to the Eco Design team. Stephanie works directly with Eco Distributors on exhibit and environment design projects and then with internal project managers, detailers, and production specialists to turn those 3D concepts into reality. We asked her to share a short bio about her personal life and professional background.

“I have lived in Grand Rapids all my life and am now married to my best friend John. My husband is a systems administrator, who loves video games and is always happy to talk about ideas that could change the world. We both love animals and have a ferret (Tom Tom), a cat (Mara) and a new puppy (Eva). We spend our time visiting family and friends or just getting outside.

I graduated from the Kendall College of Art and Design, which is part of Ferris State University in Grand Rapids. Over the years, I have been fortunate to work on many creative exhibit projects with local distributors and through my own exhibit company.    

Some of my favorite things to do are research, building projects, and more than anything finding innovative solutions and ideas to improve systems or ways of living. So, it’s no surprise I went to school for Industrial Design. In my career, I have found ways to make laundry and household chores more efficient through home storage systems, worked on the safety, efficiency and fun of ropes courses, and improved the positioning and effectiveness of chiropractic equipment.

Now I am excited to be working with trade show booths once again. Trade show design is one of my favorites with all the potential it offers. To be efficient and effective. To be exciting and impact the way you feel about a brand or product. To consistently be new, and for many other reasons, I am happy to be joining the Eco team.

Another “green option” is rental displays. Rental displays are ideal for exhibitors who are still deciding about how to optimize their trade show marketing or for those situations when a show requires a unique display solution.

Demand for Green Exhibit Systems Increases

The October 2011 Greenbuild Conference and Expo in Toronto, Ontario drew over 23,000 attendees. Greenbuild Expo showcases innovative products and services that exemplify how to use “green” to grow businesses. With over 1,700 exhibiting companies at this year’s event, the demand for eco-friendly tradeshow exhibits was higher than ever.

As in past years, Eco-Systems Sustainable Exhibits and its manufacturing partner Classic Exhibits Inc. played a pivotal role in supplying exhibitors with sustainable exhibit options at Greenbuild.  This year, there were over 30 companies with Eco-systems displays, ranging from 10 x 10 inlines to 20 x 30 islands. Eco-Systems has designed and built displays for Greenbuild exhibitors since 2008.

More and more companies are realizing the benefit of marketing their products and services while incorporating a “green display,” especially at an event such as Greenbuild.

According to Tim Morris, President of Eco-Systems, “The high attendance at Greenbuild Expo demonstrates the increasing demand for green products and services not only in North American but also worldwide. We are excited to offer companies an eco-friendly, high-design option for marketing their products at tradeshows, whether at eco-centric shows such as Greenbuild or at any other show or event.”

Eco-Systems designs exhibits using materials such as bamboo, recycled aluminum extrusion, graphics made from recycled soda bottles, and much more.  These materials form the foundation for displays ranging from banner stands to islands, including eco-friendly hybrid and pop up displays.  The strategic partnership between Eco-Systems and Classic Exhibits allows Eco-Systems to focus on exhibit design and green product research. Classic Exhibits provides the manufacturing expertise at its large manufacturing facility on the West Coast. Classic’s manufacturing efficiencies have been pivotal Eco-Systems’ growth.

“Our partnership with Eco-Systems has been financially beneficial and socially rewarding,” said Mel White, VP of Marketing and Business Development at Classic. “We’ve incorporated green practices throughout our facility, from recycling most materials to purchasing recycled products such as our foam, roto-molded cases, and aluminum extrusion. Using GREEN to Grow Businesses

The Greenbuild International Conference & Expo is right around the corner, taking place in Toronto, ON from October 4-7. For those who have never been, the show is spectacular, filled with some of the most innovative sustainable products that you will ever see.

The Greenbuild Expo exemplifies the idea of utilizing GREEN to grow businesses. The show provides an unrivaled opportunity to learn about the latest innovations, explore new products and exchange ideas with other professionals. The 3-day event also includes numerous educational seminars and workshops, and is the four-time winner of Tradeshow Week’s Fastest 50 growing trade shows in the U.S.  Last year, in Chicago, IL, the event drew nearly 40,000 attendees and over 1,000 exhibiting companies.

Greenbuild’s attendee base is large, diverse, and geographically distributed. In 2010, the show welcomed attendees from 114 countries, many of which were high-level decision makers.  This year, as the show moves to Toronto, the international intrigue only expects to rise.

Eco-Systems Sustainable Exhibits prepares for this event months in advance, expecting a spike in sales and RFP’s. Although Eco-Systems is not “officially” affiliated with Greenbuild, many exhibitors are drawn to our line of sustainable displays. Last year, Eco-Systems built over 35 exhibits that were displayed at the show. Some of the materials used in the construction of these exhibits include:

Milestones and Timeline

In just over four years, Eco-Systems has become the leader of innovative and sustainable exhibit products and practices. Eco-Systems offers customers high-quality “green” display options — from table tops to islands — through a network of over 90 certified distributors in North America.

The timeline below highlights many of the important events that have shaped Eco-Systems, including the development of many eco-friendly first materials and product lines.

January 2007: Eco-Systems Sustainable Exhibits is incorporated.

February 2007: Eco-Systems develops the first series of proprietary products to replace PVC (the most dangerous man made life-cycle plastic).

March 2007: Eco-Systems Sustainable Exhibits pioneers the nation’s first branded modular exhibit system built from LEED accredited materials at EXHIBITOR2007 in Las Vegas, thus creating a new “green” category in the exhibit industry.

March 2007: Eco-Systems stuns the industry with a coveted Buyer’s Choice Award at EXHIBITOR2007.

April 2007: Eco-Systems develops Eco-Poly Print Media, a 100% recycled plastic media for water-based print applications.

May 2007: Eco-Systems begins development of national distribution network.

August 2007: Eco-Systems further validates sustainable exhibit products with 1st Place Award in Best of the Best category at the TS2 Show.

February 2008: Eco-Systems begins development of Paradise Fabric, made from 100% recycled post-consumer soda bottles.

May 2008: EPA announces formation of Sustainable Green Meetings Standards writing initiative. Eco-Systems president Tim Morris is a key participant in activities.

June 2008: Eco-Systems enters into a joint-venture partnership with Classic Exhibits Inc. to take advantage of design, manufacturing, and distribution strengths.

September 2008: Eco-Systems partners with Optima Graphics to supply the trade show industry with Paradise Fabric and other green materials.

February 2009: Eco-Systems introduces Greencore, a biodegradable and printable substrate as an alternative to Sintra.

January 2010: Due to lower material costs and production efficiencies, Eco-Systems is able to drastically lower prices across the board.

June 2010: Eco-Systems and Classic Exhibits enter an equity partnership.

March 2011: Eco-Systems moves manufacturing facility to Portland, Oregon to take advantage of production synergies between Classic Exhibits and Eco-Systems.
