In the 90s, pre-internet, we had company stores in some cities. That was ok, then. This is a different time and every customer is fair game to and in reach of every distributor. From my perspective, putting your resources into supporting your distributor network trumps whatever direct sales you could conjure up. Frankly, Trussworks’ strength is as a manufacturer and rental production company. Our distributors strengths are in sales and marketing. With the frustrations distributors face competing with each other across the globe, the last thing I would want to do is join in the fracas, no matter the potential quick rewards. To me that is just a quick way to lose the trust and support you’ve worked so hard to gain. Good on you, Kevin for remaining true to your word with your distributors. We’ll let the others play that game and we’ll see how it all turns out.

Today I went back to the same pre-show press release online from one of the competitors that I was referring to. They removed the link to their shopping cart site and replaced it with their corporate website link. Curious.

How do these manufacturers respond when questioned about this approach? I am interested in how they justify it. Apparently they’ve found some loophole, some nuanced argument in the manufacturer/distributor relationship that eludes me.
